Mela'. *Ashnel's voice, which he meant to sound authoritive and strong, sounds choked and strained now. Melamia drags her paw softly from Elm's grip, and looks back at him as she follows Ashnel. "Wait here," she mouths, calling the words silently, sorrowfully.* *Ashnel leads Mela' out onto the balconey. The latter looks around for Robin, and when she can't see the other, tries to make her feelings colder towards the other. But she finds she can't. Ashnel doesn't look at his sister as he speaks.*
Why? *He asks, the word sounding strange and out of place coming from the squirrel Captain. The other does not respond, so Ashnel continues slowly.* You could have done anything - anything - with your life here. You could have had it all, and you chose him. *Ashnel can't bring himself to say Elm's name, and he spits the syllable.* I'm not even going to ask how long it's been happening, or how far it went, because either way, you've hurt Robin more than anybeast could. *That's not true... Terri could hurt her worse... but it doesn't matter now.* I don't care if you think he lead you into this, because you could be stronger than him. He's a coward! He didn't even tell Robin about this! And why him? Everything just for him. Elm. *He hates the name a thousand times over.*
So we're not that different. *Mela' answers, her voice angry as she chokes back tears.* You and I. You could have been the Captain of the Guard, been with any of the squirrelmaids in the Pine Woods, but you chose Terragon and Terralux. *Ashnel turns, his eyes wild, almost scared.* No, I chose Ayeny and Terralux, because I loved them as much as the Pine Woods. Liar! *Mela' screams at him.* You use Terralux as a weapon, to hide you from duty and you don't care about the Pine Woods! You don't care about anything! *She turns to go, to find Elm and Ashnel is never sure if she heard him say:* I do. That's why I didn't tell Robin.
*Mela' storms into the house, ignoring the shocked stares and gapes of the creatures around her. Somebeast, it must be Birchy, because through her tears she can only see his pale fur, tries to stop her, but Mela' shoves past them to find Elm. She bursts into the room where she left him, calling his name.*

*Elm hasn't left the room he's still just standing there running a paw over his cheek where Terragon slapped him. He can't bring himselef to move. Inside his head so many thoughts are dashing round he feels sick. Coward! Coward coward coward coward coward! You're always so scared you weren't even the one to get your revenge for your own sister's murder! Robin did that for you too didn't she! Now you've hurt so badly by not telling her! You always seem to cause pain no matter what to everybeast around you! Like....Silver.....she was killed because of you! And Birch too! Now you've crushed Robin when you could've just told her and ended it ages ago! You're pathetic compared to her and Mela. The only difference between you and Robin is that you've got someone now and she's stronger than you could ever be! Ever! You abandoned your family and now her, she trusted you when no one else did, she trusted you, she trusted you. The voice in his head slowly fades away repeating that phrase and he looks up. Thrukka has gone, at least the world still has some mercy then. He waits a while longer and jumps back as Mela flies into the room. The squirrel reaches out his paw to catch her.* Sshh I'm here, I'm here, what happened? If you want I'll go talk to him, I don't know to try and explain if I can. *He looks down at her and wishes he could regret what he's doing just a bit.*
*Robin clenches her fists and finds herself trying to calm down. She walks in circles round and round staring at the statues gazing down at her. They seem almlost filled with pity, she half wishes someone would come and finde her. Finally the squirrelmaid takes a deep breath and heads back towards the party. She stops just beyond the light shining from it and leans against a tree in quite a good view of it. She almost feels as if she can't go back not just yet. So she stands there and waits, almost to be invited in.*

*Mela shakes her head.* It doesn't matter, let's get away from here quickly. She moves off into the next room, where she has been staying. Luckily, Mela is very neat and organise, and all her belongings are still in their careful place in a traveling bag. She doesn't look around the room too carefully, but picks up her bag and returns to Elm.* Coming?

Of course. There's nothing for me here if you leave, but do you really want to laeve everything you have here, even Ashnel, for me? *He stares at her wide eyed but before he gets his answer he turns and goes to his room trying to avoid the disapproving stares being shot at him. When he reaches his room he grabs his stuff and nearly runs back to Mela. Before he gets there however he is stopped by the one beast he wanted to see less than Robin. Thrukka.*
*The small shrew holds her hatchet dangerously tightly.* I just have one last thing to say to you Elmroot. *She stresses the last syllable.* If you ever come back here again without Mela I will kill you and string you by your fluffly little tail so everybeast for all time can see what a coward and a traitor look like. If you choose this path then choose it with your whole heart do not change your mind and never regret it or I will hunt you down. *She moves aside and lets him pass.*
*Elm moves swiftly on back to Mela.* Well if you're sure about this where shall we go? *He stares at her and asks himself if he regrets it. No, comes the answer. No never regret. He smiles then despite himself but only at Mela.*
*Robin finally plucks up the courage to go back to the party but she sneaks in hoping no body sees her as she makes her way to the balcony. She sees a figure there and gasps rather too loudly for it not to have been overheard. She turns to go but hesitates wondering if it's Terragon. She turns back.*

*Terragon makes her way out onto the balconey, and finds Ashnel staring moodily out at the fiery sky. Before she can greet him, he speaks, and the leaderess is sure at first that the other is talking to himself.* I could've done something about it, instead of letting Thrukka show Robin. I could've broken the news in a quieter way. *He turns to Terragon, and then she knows he's talking to her.* It's hard to decide what's right. *Ashnel holds out a paw, and the red squirrel takes it quietly.* It's alright. *She tells him, over and over, until the words have little meaning.* It's fine... *Then she returns to the party and reassures yet more Terraluxians that everything is quite alright, thank-you very much, and no, Miss Alashia is fine.* *Melamia opens the window and steps out.* I don't think we should go through the front door - Ashnel might still be there - but there's a route going right through the canopy. *She turns back, the night's events almost forgotten as she tells Elm.* It's... romantic.

Yes it is, a near ceratin death plunge and a quick hop skip into the forest is always romantic. I'm sorry I shouldn't try to make a joke out of it. You're right it is, fleeing from adversery to preserve our chances of being together. There is nothing more romantic. *He smiles at her and steps out and starts to climb down but stops after just a bit and looks up waiting for Mela.*
*Robin now back inside heads out over to the balcony she dodges round the crowd hoping Terragon doesn't see her. She steps out into the night sky. She gasps as she sees Ashnel standing there. The squirrelmaid almost turns to go but stops herself before she even realises what she's doing she has opened her mouth to say...something.* Look Ash....I....I'm sorry. I'm just sorry about everything. *Robin hangs her head and has to bite her own lip to stop herself bursting into tears right there and then. However still she doesn't go she feels that he might have something to say, anything.*

*Mela grins.* Either way, we'd be together, right? *She follows him out of the window onto the precariously swaying rope bridge. It is dark in the trees, and she can just about see a little way ahead.* *And out on the balconey, Ashnel turns.* By the Guiding Stars, I wish none of this had ever happened.

*Elm begins calling to her to guide her down. Finally his paws touch the ground as he steps off. The pirate sighs with relif and waits for Mela to get down. He looks around watching to see if any of the others have come to stop them, or had seen them and come to warn them or drag them back. He would never come back, never. He wouldn't mess it up this time.*
*Robin's head snaps up and she hisses nearly angrily.* Don't say that Ash. Never. I wouldn't give this up for the world. For as long as Elm was here I felt something amazing, what you feel for Ayeny and what Terragon felt for Oakbark, for once it was my turn. Wishing this had never happened would be to you like Ayney and died and you wishing you had never met her. You would never do that would you? So I'll never wish that this had never happened. Somethings are worth it. All I will ever wish is that I learn something from this and don't go after the next creature who pays me any attention and try to look deeper. *Robin stays there nearly gasping for breath almost challenging Ashnel, she knows he's been hurt too but right now she doesn't care.*

*Ashnel nods dumbly, then, for some reason, takes a step forward to hug Robin. Because she's right... partly. He urges himself not to remind Robin that he never liked Elm anyway.*

*Robin stares at him for a second. Then she hugs him back but steps away after a few seconds.* I'm sorry I just don't feel that close to anyone right now. All I can seem to think of is how Terragon slapped him for me, and how part of me didn't want her to. *She then realises.* Thrukka knew, she must've done she said she had something to show me. That shrew had to know! *She stares at Ashnel in shock she hadn't thought that anybeast else would've known before her. Obviously Terragon didn't and Ashnel clearly didn't because of his reaction. Robin grins half heartedly.* Well at least she told me, if with a bit of a bang. I thank her for that at least. *She closes her eyes and walks over to the rail and stares out at the night sky.*

*And it's then that Ashnel tells her.* I knew too. I saw them in Citadel Clearing not half an hour ago. *He stands there, watching Robin's turned back, and realises this is just how Melamia was a moment ago. She had stood where he was now, and told him... told him that they were not so different. Ashnel doesn't want to understand what she meant.* *Mela' wanders after Elm, wishing they could have stayed in the walkway in the canopy. But the pair of them are, at least, out of Terralux now. The dark squirrel breathes in the air and sighs heavily, watching her breath steam before her in the night air.*

*Robin spins round to face him.* What? *She stare at him in nearly the same way she stared at Elm, shocked and betrayed.* Why-? No I don't want to know. She was your sister I guess it's only understandable....you did the right.....I suppose you wanted to protect.....just why? *She turns back round again to face the woods and thinks that she almost sees two figues running through the wood but can't see through the tears that are welling out of her eyes and running down her face. She struggles to stop them but ends up just sniffing hopelessly.*

What would you have done? *Ashnel demands, almost smiling coldly.* If you were in my place, and I in yours? I could've hurt Mela' and you at the same time. *And, reluctantly, he admits:* Also, I thought Elm might've had the decency to tell you.

I'm not balming you! *She rounds on him angrily.* I don't know what I would've done I might have confronted them if I was in your position and asked them to tell me what was going on! I'm not blaming you or anything Ashnel so don't get jumpy with me I know you got hurt too and I'm sorry. I can't say I wish it didn't happen but I can say I'm sorry that I ever bought him back here. I should've just let him stay on Meratoa instead of coming back here. *She faces Ashnel and waits.* I'm sorry and I'm not blaming you. *The squirrelmaid finishes quietly.*

OOC: Hey, are Mela' and Elm gonna end up ruling Meratoa or something! BIC: *Ashnel shruggs, the emotions surrounding him are starting to be too much, so he walks away, down the ladder and across to Citadel Clearing. From the window of Starsett Hollow, Terragon watches him go.*
