Um. . . *she echoed his sentiment and then she added for what seemed like the millionth time* Thank you. *Her cheeks turned pink again under her fur and she tried to look away but she couldn't seem to draw her gaze away from his blue eyes.* I just thought it might be nice to sit closer to the fire while you tell me about Terralux.

Oh. *The squirrel replies, seeming to snap out of a trance of sorts, realizing that Tamar was talking to him.* Um, Sure. Just don't try to walk if you're still tired... *He purposefully left out saying 'weak' in place of tired, to make the squirrelmaid feel better. He puts his arm around her back and under her shoulders to lead her over to the fire where she could take a seat in the wooden chair that he previously sat in.*

*Tamar just nodded her thanks this time, afraid that if she said the two words again he would start to think they were all that comprised her vocabulary. Her nod also indicated her obedience to not try to walk on her own, as did her tightening hold around his shoulders. *The floor boards under her footpaws felt slick and unsteady or perhaps that was just her unsteady steps. Once during the short walk to the chair her knee buckled and she threw her other paw around to grasp onto the front of his tunic to steady herself. This caused her to look up into his eyes again, slightly worried of what he would think of her* I'm sorry. *she mumbled*

It's alright. *He reasssures the squirrelmaid, helping her to sit down in the chair next to the fire as gently as possible.* Are you still cold? *He inquires, thinking that her weakness was clearly due to her physical state. Well, the fire would probably take care of that, but just to be sure, he asked anyway. He found that he was getting a little used to looking towards Tamar now, and his curiosity for her overrode that previous feeling of awkwardness, that curiosity now growing some in the process. He didn't know what to think of Tamar yet. It's not like the squirrelmaid was a two-page book he could read in the space of a minute and declare it something. It never worked like that.*

Just a little *Tamar shivered as she answered his question and then she thought of something and exclaimed happily* Hey, I think my hiccups are gone. *The fire was warm here, and it was nice to be in a chair that didn't sway, and she was finding more and more that she actually enjoyed this other squirrel's company. She was still a little embarrassed at him having to do everything for her but she made a promise to herself to find a way to pay him back some day. For now she was just going to enjoy the serenity* Now will you tell me more about Terralux? *she asked a little sheepishly*

Um, Sure. *The squirrel smiles a little, and replies to her with his voice sounding a bit happier, oddly enough. It seemed that the more time he spent with Tamar, the better he felt around her... He clears his throat, squatting beside the squirrelmaid to tell of the peaceful little village that was Terralux.*
Terralux... Well, it's a lot of things... For a small town, a lot happened here. *He faces her with his blue eyes, the firelight reflecting in them a little.* Terragon and Ashnel, who are the founders of Terralux, live just up the street there... *He gestures down the street with his head a little.* Ashnel left a few months ago, but Terragon's still there. She's a nice beast for a leader...
*He continues, moving furthur and furthur away from where they were to give Tamar a map of Terralux inside her mind.* Then there's the residential houses, with a bonch of folks, and then the Whispering Willow tavern beyond that, with the Apothecary near it, run by Regen Eale.... There's the lake and the houseboats, and the clearing full of statues beyond that, all the guilds and things... Terralux is all that, and probably more. *He shakes his head here and sighs.*
Well, it is more, I guess... We had a whole bunch of things happening... Like the flood in the summer, and a lot of other things...

*It took Tamar a moment to realize that he had stopped speaking and she was staring into his blue eyes in silence. She blinked a couple of times and looked away, trying to remember what he had said and how to respond* It sounds very nice. My grandfather told me a little about it. I think he grew up here when he was very young but I'm sure a lot has changed since then. He wanted to come back here. *Her head dropped sadly knowing that she had finally made it and he never would but she perked back up and looked at Silas smiling* I'd like to meet the leader, Terragon? *The idea of the village leader being a female appealed greatly to Tamar* Truth is I'd like to stay here. I'd find something to do, a job of some kind. I don't want to be a burden on anybeast. Grandfather and I traveled a long time. It would be nice to have some place to call home again. *She looked away again not wanting to admit how at home she felt sitting right here by Silas's fire.*

Uh-huh. *Silas nods in a sort of understanding, glad that the squirrelmaid didn't notice his repitition of the nondescriptive word 'things' in his description of Terralux. It was an odd yet common side-effect for talking to pretty squirrelmaids, and he had thought he had gotten over the 'thing' deal a while back. Maybe he was wrong.*
Well, I'm sure Terragon would get ye at least a temporary apartment-room or something, 'till a new tree-house gets built... *He says as he moves a log about in the fire with a stick to burn the other half of it, looking back at Tamar afterwards. He wondered what she would think upon actually seeing the whole town and meeting everybeast, and what it would be like for her to stay here. A stray spark interrupted his thoughts, biting at his footpaw briefly before he brushed it off with a paw.*

*Tamar looked back at him when he spoke and noticed the near burn. She nearly said something about it: to ask him if he was okay, but she thought better of it, thinking it would only embarrass him.* "That would be nice." *Actually it was better than what she could have expected. The idea of her own tree house was very exciting. She looked around the room wondering if her own would be this nice, but then her eyes fell on Silas again. it couldn't possibly be Her own home would most likely lack the greatest draw to this place: the male squirrel sitting next to her.* "How long have you lived in Terralux?"

I've been here about five seasons. *The squirrel answers, remembering the day that he walked into town on that same path they had just traversed. He smiles and looks back up at Tamar after disposing of the stick in the fire.* You should see the village in the springtime, you know. It's way better than now...
*He remarks, stopping a moment and remembering another aspect of his stay at Terralux. Of those five seasons, he always felt like that there was something missing then, as if every last piece he tried to fit in the jigsaw-puzzle-sized hole wasn't the right shape. Maybe, though, just maybe not all hope is lost for him. He just had to keep trying new pieces, so to speak.

Well I haven't seen much of it. And what I've seen was mostly. . . *Tamar tried to think of the right word and then laughed* white. I can't wait to see it in the spring. You make it all sound wonderful.

Well it is, I guess, compared to my earlier home up north... *The squirrel shrugs, and stetches out to pick up his cup of tea. He refills it and takes a sip, looking into the fire again. After a moment he looks back up to the squirelmaid from his seat on the floor.* By the way, have you ever heard of a war going on in Southsward, about two years ago? *He asks, wondering how connected Tamar was with the outside world. Though it was relatively inconsequential to the other questions he was thinking of asking, it was best to see rather than not.*

I've heard bits and pieces of it. My grandfather was a warrior. *she looked confused for a second* But I thought Terralux stayed out of all that. I think that's why he wanted me to come here because it was neutral territory. *She looked up at Silas hurriedly* Not that I'd be afraid of a fight if it came to that I'm decent with a bow and arrows *decent was an understatement but she didn't want to brag*

Oh? *His gaze now included a small amount of surprise. Generally speaking, squirrelmaids tended to stray away from the crafts and weapons of warfare, at least in his experience. So Tamar knew something of the war, and how to defend herself as well.* I suppose he taught you how...? *He asks, casting a brief glance at his own unstrung bow. Archers were now becoming less and less common, as he discovered, so to meet another beast trained in that skill would require some amount of luck. An interesting squirrelmaid, this Tamar...*

Mmm hmm. We traveled through some rough country. He wanted me to be able to protect myself if it came to it and I was willing to learn. *Tamar smiled remembering her grandfather skill and patience* Sword was his primary weapon but I couldn't lift it and he didn't want to have it to far from his paw. So he gave me his short bow to practice with and I just kind of took to it naturally. I still have it back at my little shelter. Wherever that is? *She shrugged having gotten so turned around in the storm that she had no idea where that might be.*
