OOC: Heheh. Make it a Rippla-smiley, for best effect.
BIC:
Lonas has been strolling along beside Terri, not saying much - he didn't bring a pack, intending to get whatever he bought delivered to Terralux by wagon, as usual. He glances over at Oakrose, smiles in a pleasant manner (having since more or less forgotten about Darron), and nods. "No problem." The golden squirrel steps to one side to leave room between himself and Terri for the other.
OOC: Short post. I think I ran out of muse working on Soldier's Pact.

OOC: I messed around with one of Terri's smileys to try and create a Rippla-style yawning one so he can yawn at Oakrose's patheticness. BIC: *Oakrose smiles broadly at Lonas, feeling extremely happy. She steps between the two with a brisk skip to her step. Looking up into his brown eyes, she feels a strong urge to lean up and kiss him, but doesn't. No, don't do it, don't do it, it'll be your luck that Darron'll see and go crazy on Lonas.* Thanks. *As quickly as it had began, her gaze shifted to Terragon.* So are we gonna open up shops like we planned? Because, if so, I'd like to get some things for mine.

OOC: Meh, and I haven't got the energy or motivation to post there right now.
BIC: *Terragon nods.* Sure, *She looks quickly from Oakrose to Lonas and back to the the path ahead.* I dunno, *The squirrel replies, barely turning her head, when Oakrose speaks. It seems we might have other problems on our paws before that.* It depends what the trading post's selling at this time of year. You'll have to hope Lonas can help get you bargains there. Talking of which, Lonas, *Terragon calls up at the taller squirrel.* Are you getting supplies for the Apothecary while we're there?
OOC: Loved the bit in "Soldier's Pact" about Terri being an irresponsible leader, lol. It's so true, though. Before she met Ashnel, she was independant and a fairly good leader, if a little bossy. Ashnel is her best friend, but completely takes over her personality - bringing out some great qualities and some aspects of her personality that she absolutely loathes. Ashnel never realises; that's his biggest weakness. He forgets to remember he's human, (squirrel), and notice the others around him. *By the time you've finished rambling, you might as well've post on St. Ninian's.*
Nice smiley, Oakrose.

OOC: Never let it be said that Regen had any tact whatsoever, right?
BIC:
"Maybe. It d'pends on what they've got..last year I got spices. Rosemary, pepper, ginger.." Lonas shrugs a bit, distractedly. "Th' pepper's been in high demand for something Baraka MacErlon's been doin'. What it is, I don't know." "Something that blows up," he adds. "Ye c'n hear sometimes at night."

*Oakrose nods at Terragon.* Mm-huh. Yea, I was planning on doing a clinic of some kind. *She listens intently to Lonas, then laughs.* What's he planning to do, blow up the place? It would be useful for defending against vermin. Just throw one up in amongst 'em and BOOM!
*Darron was a bit worried about leaving Oakrose back there with that... other squirrel. But what can I do? I don't wanna cause somethin' by going back there. So he kept on walking past tree after tree.*

*Warm, weak winter sunlight shines through the trees and Terragon gives a rueful, lopsided smile.* I'd rather Baraka was with us, than against us if anything came up though. *"With us," "against us." One tiny pawstep for Terralux, a flying leap for Terragon Canopy. She shakes her head as though in disbelief as she continues.* In fact, I wouldn't want to be an enemy of any of you, really. Not just for the way you told Darron off at New Year, *Terragon adds to Oakrose, grinning. Eyes raised heavenward, she breathes out. Away from Terralux, she's open, happy to talk or remain silent and smiling. The further they get from the settlement, the more recognisable Terragon becomes as an eighteen year old, no longer having to compete with the older squirrels and their voices of experience.*

*Oakrose chuckled to herself a bit uneasily.* Well, that was just... just, instinct. He's just... a bit cocky at times, and... *She looks around at the beautiful trees and the way the morning sun dapples everything. I couldn't see him treat Lonas like that. Yea, that's what you wanna say, but you can't. You're a coward yourself, go on and admit it. You ran from an authority position, and you're scared to show your true feelings now. Coward. A voice inside her mocked. She too kept the silence, it was peaceful for once.*

They all are, *Terragon reassures her.* Well, most are. Present company accepted, of course, *She tells Lonas with a nod.* So, *Changing the subject, Terragon asks,* What's everybeast been up to over the winter? Did either of you go ice-skating when the lake froze over? It was brilliant! And we've got the Spring Festival to look forward to as well. Though how I'm going to organise it withou- with so little time until spring.

*Oakrose grins at Lonas, then laughs aloud. Pointing at the leaderess, she jokingly berates her.* You've admitted it! You miss him, yes you do! Terri misses Ashnel! I knew you did, I just knew it! You've been way too quiet, too solemn. *Clearing her throat, the squirrel straightens her skirt and walks in an orderly manner.* Yes, I did go skating, once with Soilrose, twice with Mayyie, and once on my own. It was very refeshing, especially at night. The stars were so sparkly, and the ice shone like a polished stone. Speaking of stones and seasonal festivals, I recall a golden squirrel bought two pawrings from me at last summer's festival. I was new, and you almost seemed shy. Whatever did you do with those, Lonas? *Just saying his name sent tingles of happiness and joy down her spine.*

*Maybe out of tact or embarassment, Terragon wanders on ahead, leaving Oakrose and Lonas together. She'd not intended to mention Ashnel at all, to forget about him and even about Terralux. She smiles again and sighs with the tiniest shake of her head. Though it is morning, a thin cresent moon can be seen along with the pale blinding sun overhead. The day is warm, despite the ragged blanket of snow underpaw and Terragon dreamily allows Oakrose's question, directed at Lonas, to wash over her, barely taking in the words.*

"What? Oh, them." Lonas carefully avoids looking at Oakrose, whiskers bristling like he's embarrased. "I figgered they might be useful..sometime.." He clears his throat and changes the subject quickly. "I didn't do any skatin'. Cold's not somethin' I like..although why I moved up here, I dunno, if I didn't like it. Africay mighta' been better fer that, it's always warm up there." The golden squirrel warms to his topic suddenly. "They've got strange beasts down there..tall 'uns like wildcats with big furry manes. Some o' 'em paint their faces. An' also giant crocindiles, with sharp teeth like dragons, an' more wildcats with spots all down them. An' big birds wit' no feathers on their heads, an' even bigger ones wot run on two legs. There's these beasts like little foxes wot ride on 'em t' war against th' painted wildcats." Lonas pauses. "An' they sell fruits an' nuts in the markets, an' spices, an' ye' c'n get a camelopard skin or ride on an' epphant.." "Wild place."

*Oakrose's face fell, and she called up to her friend.* I'm sorry, Terri! I was just joking, honest! *She kicks a pebble out of her way and blushes. I prob'ly look so stupid! I really hope Darron leaves me alone... this would be a good time to get to know Lonas better. She trudges along in silence, only looking up every once in a while at Lonas. The perfect deep brown eyes, the rougish look, a lot like Darron, only sweeter. Much sweeter.* Really? Wow, that sounds so exotic! Might have to take some of the gold Mum and Dad left me to buy supplies to travel there, explore. That'd be very refreshing, yes, a nice vacation. *The squirrel muses. It's unusual that she calls her father "Dad" instead of "Daddy".*

"Long trip fer a vacation." Lonas glances down at Oakrose wryly, then goes back to looking where he's going. "Most o' th' beasts down there aren't lookin' fer vacations, they're tradin' or something. Lotsa fights there. Saracens, Crusaders, Jews, local tribes..it ain't the kinda place ye go fer fun usually." He grins, clearly recalling something amusing. "Last time I was there, I made th' mistake o' wearin' this massive gold crucifix..which Reg' has now. Anyways, I ran int' a whole horde o' Calvin Protestant Crusaders there on a missionary cruise." "Got beat up." The grin spreads, one of the first in a while. "Apparently, th' tavern I'd gone int' was set aside fer those who were fightin' th' Crusades, not wanderin' pirates. After th' Calvins finished wid' me on account o' that crucifix, th' Jews got me int' a big ol' argument 'bout salvation. After that, th' Catholics dumped me in th' street fer th' night."

Oh. *Once again, her face fell.* I guess I won't be goin' there, then. Wow, that's harsh. Maybe down the coast a bit, where it's warmer. *Oakrose smiles.* By the beach. So, whatcha been up to this winter?

*Terragon shruggs, her back still turned to the other two squirrels. Up ahead, the cross-roads can be seen, with the thinning trees falling away or parting for a few hundred metres in places, leaving wide paths to the left, right and straight ahead. If I was thinking like Lonas, I might suggest a toll gate. We've got the most direct path to Salamandastron and the port running straight through our territory! She gives a tiny shake of her head and lets her attention wander back to the conversation behind her. Africay? Terragon had heard of it before and raises her eyebrows, impressed. The merchant squirrel was well-travelled!*
