*The Winter Solstice party is far less formal than that of the Summer Solstice. The party hall is occupied by the New Year Oak and preparations for the celebration then, so it is a few drinks with friends at Starsett Hollow, despite the fact that today marks two occasions worthy of smiles and celebrations. For that morning, Danniar received a letter, delivered by a small mouse dibbun, from her brother, which Ashnel read aloud to her. When Terragon arrived back from the party hall, where she'd been helping with the plannings for the New Year, the content of the letter was read again and extra wine was sent for from the Tavern for the party...*
*Ashnel, wearing a grey tunic and black trousers, wanders around Starsett Hollow, waiting for the first few guests. Terragon is still arranging drinks and snacks on the table, while Danniar tries on an old jacket, that had been left in the house by somebeast - Talis, Arven or Joey maybe - and had been modified to fit the rat. A moment later comes the first knock at the door and a quiet curse, cut short, by Terragon, annoucing the arrival of the first guests.*

*There were four beasts at the door. Darron had knocked - being the gentleman - and was clad in black trousers and a matching tunic. Mayyie was wearing a deep purple dress, down to her ankles, and Oakrose could've passed as her twin, only in black. Soilrose, being the good Abbeymole (still!) was wearing a dark green habit. Darron felt for Oakrose's paw, and, unnoticed by the other two, held it firmly until the door opened. And Oakrose held onto his tightly.*

*Terragon looks up, startled, but doesn't open the door. Ashnel shruggs at her.* You get it, *She tells him in a whisper.* I have to get changed. *In fact, what the leaderess is wearing seems perfectly acceptable for a party, Ashnel decides, frowning at her.* Nobeast will mind, *He whispers back.* No, you won't mind, *Terri replies, with a ghost of a grin.* But I swear you're half-blind, Ash'. *With that, she hurries to her room, pulling the door shut behind her with a footpaw and leaving Ashnel to open the door with a smile that is now genuine and greet however's behind it.* Evening! Hello, Oakrose, Soilrose. And... *He pauses for a moment, remembering the names of their guests.* Darron and Mayyie? Ms. Mayyie, *He corrects himself with another smile.* Come in, everybeast. Terri'd be furious if she knew I was making you all stand outside in the cold. Wine and things on the table.
*Terragon glances casually in the small mirror hung by the door, then double-takes a little vainly and pulls a face at her scruffy reflection. She stares around the room; desk - its chair tucked neatly beneath it at an angle - below the window that's open despite the cold; bed next to the desk, and a tall, slim wardrobe at its foot. She opens the doors and looks through a wooden chest on the floor of it, extracting a blue cloak and matching skirt which she places on her bed and the chair. Then, on second thoughts, the squirrel replaces the skirt with trousers of a similar colour. The colour of these items is largely thanks to the Apothecary, where Terragon had spent a long morning searching through the fabrics and dyes.* *Next, a long white tunic with a neatly stitched but chaotic blue design, that looks faintly Eastern is brought out of the wardrobe and Terragon quickly dresses. She brushes her fur with equal speed, before glancing in the mirror with another frown and shaking her head as though trying to remove water from her fur until it returns to it's usual scruffiness.* *Terragon smooths down the tunic, throws the cloak around her shoulder and fastens it with a plain stone brooch before opening the door and stepping out into the main room of Starsett Hollow. All this has taken her less than two minutes. What chaos has Ashnel caused by now?*

"A whole year, Lonas. Whatcha think o' that, huh?" The Eale brothers - trailed, as usual, by Rippla - wander down the path from Eale's Nest. Regen, dressed in his usual outfit with the addition of a silver cloak, looks extremely pleased with himself. Well, more than usual. He's congratulating himself on staying a whole year at Terralux. Lonas looks a little annoyed, but only a little. The golden squirrel is dressed in orange and black silk for the occasion, and has removed his turban - instead, he wears a purple hat with complicated gold and green embroidery around the brim. The effect is a blaze of color, which (thankfully) doesn't clash with Regen's silver and black. "Regen, you don't get any congratulations for staying here a year. You never move - well, except for from Copperlin, and you were there eight years b'fore y' moved here." "Whatever." Regen rearranges his shortsword, turns a large gold ring on his left paw around (it's clearly a sealing ring - the olive-colored stone on it is carved into the family crest), and smirks. The golden squirrel had been even more pleased with himself of late - he was now a landowner, duke, ambassador, retired soldier, and most recently Head Woodland Captain. Yes, things were looking up in the world. Gone were the days when he could spend all night drinking (at least, mostly gone. Sometimes he had a lapse.)
The three reach the tree fairly quickly..Rippla (who dressed somewhat barbarically, in green and gray with a heavy cloak of some kind of animal skin, with his shiny rapier at his side) knocks and steps back, frowning. Regen and Lonas follow the faster-moving weasel up the ladder and stand behind him, Lonas mumbling under his breath. Rippla scowls a bit, squaring his shoulders under the cloak (it's striped silver and black fur), and waits, his Thor's Hammer glittering in the light from inside the Hollow. He'd only come to this little shindig to see if Danniar was there - it was nice to have somebeast to talk to who wasn't scared to death of him. Either that or simply aloof, like Regen Eale or Silas Hawkeye. And then there was that Oakrose, who appeared to simply be scared of him..but who cared. There was no honor in battling a female, and besides, she was, quite simply, pathetic.

*Oakrose gasped slightly and blushed when Ashnel opened the door. Quickly dropping Darron's paw, she smiled and nodded.* Evening, Ash'! Well, it's not too terribly cold out here. *Darron was the first through the door, only nodding his head at the host. Oakrose followed, and her words made her think of the Dragonfly she'd sent Lonas. Now that I'm sittin here thinkin it through, I've never been anywhere cold as you... Soilrose walked over the thresh hold with a grin and 'Gurt evenin, Zurr Azznel!', which left Mayyie last to enter.* Thank you, Ashnel, is it? I wasn't going to come, since we're just visiting, but Oakie - er, Oakrose - insisted we come. *With that, she too enters Starsett Hollow for the Winter Solstice Party.*

*Ashnel nods to Oakrose and Darron, before greeting Soilrose with a smile. He has not noticed anything out of the ordinary. At Mayyie's comment however, the dark-furred squirrel seems embarrassed.* Oh, um... you're welcome, *He answers and frowns as he glances outside again to find more guests arriving. Regen and Lonas. Good. Rippla's there too, having just knocked.Rippla... I can tolerate.* 'llo, Lonas, Regen. Rippla. *He stands aside again to allow the guests past.* Could somebeast close the door behind 'em? *Ashnel calls over his shoulder, making his way towards the drinks table.* Any wine or a drink for any of you? *Danniar emerges from one of the doors leading off the main room and, spotting her, Terragon walks hastily towards her, dodging past Ashnel.* Is the jacket alright? *She asks, bending down to talk to the rat.* I''s grea', Terr'. *Danniar answers and points towards the drinks table.* Any Whisp'rin' Willow cid'r, d'you reck'n? *Dropping her paw, Danni suddenly winces and mutters something through clenched teeth.* What? Nothin'. Th're's a pin still in the jack't, *Danniar tells Terragon reluctantly.* Nah, s'no' y' fault. *She adds quickly before the squirrel can apologise. With her other paw, the rat quickly seizes the pin head between two claws and deftly pulls it out of the fabric and her arm. She looks around for somewhere to leave it and finally pins it to a curtain as a temporary measure. Terragon laughs and wanders off to speak to the other guests.*

What do you mean "Bump."? *Darron has gathered warm glasses of wine for himself, Oakrose, Soilrose, and Mayyie. The girls sit in chairs, while Darron opts to stand and wait for guests to talk to.*

OOC: DAB phrase for when a topic goes inactive on the VOY forums. Stops it getting archieved, (sp?).
BIC: *Danniar joins Ashnel, (OOC: Still here for the rest of this thread), the Eale brothers and Rippla while Terragon smiles to Oakrose and wanders over.* Evening. Darron and Mayyie, right? *She holds out a paw to the newcomers.* Sorry I haven't had time to introduce myself before...

*Oakrose smiles back at her friend. Mayyie and Darron take Terri's extended paw in turn.* Naw, it's okay Miz Scrufftail. Oakrose has told me an' Mayyie so much about you, it's like we already know you! Yes, well, Darron and I have spent quite a few nights touring the village with Oakrose and Soilrose. Everything is very nice, you run it really well. *Soilrose looks up from sharing a jellied scone with Oakrose and laughs.* Hurrhurr, they make Miz Oakyroser an' Oi seem so heroiccurr, don't they?

It's down to Ashnel, Geordie and Stoakly, t'be honest with you, *Terragon insists.* And my sister, Robin, of course. And I'm sorry you had to arrive directly after... well, I'm sure Ashnel's explained to you what happened. *She remembers him mentioning the newcomers when he trudged wearily back to the house after finishing speaking to all the Terraluxians he could find. Terragon changes the subject quickly.* Have you met Danniar Anglafellen yet, either of you?

*Neither Mayyie or Darron knew who any of those besides Ashnel were that Terragon mentioned, but they didn't inquire more about them. At the mention of Danniar, both shook their heads politely.* Nope, I don't think we've met 'er yet. *Oakrose clears her throat for no apparent reason and heads outside "just to get some air" as she assures Soilrose. Once at the door, she tapped Ashnel's shoulder.* Could I please go outside?

*Ashnel opens his mouth to reply, but he notices Oakrose's darkly coloured dress. He'd never particularly paid attention, but didn't she wear green colours usually? He can't remember, having never felt the need to show any interest in Oakrose, but was the dress was a mourning one, was it?* Of course, *Ashnel tells her, not outwardly showing his concern.* You didn't want a drink or anything, did you? *He hears Terragon calling Danniar over and nods Oakrose towards the door of the house, before turning back to the Eale brothers and Rippla.* *Danniar scurries over and gives Terragon and the other two squirrels an expectant look. She'd seen the latter two around Terralux for the last day or so, but hadn't cared to introduce herself.* Dannia', *She says after a moment and offers a paw.*

*Oakrose notes the look in Ashnel's eyes: he looked surprised and concerned. Usually she'd be excited and flirty in a case like this, but not tonight.* No, Darron got us each a cup of wine when we arrived. But thanks. *She offers a small smile and exits. Nodding to Rippla and the Eale brothers (and of course smiling a bit at Lonas) she sits on a small treestump just inside of the woodlands. She talked quietly to something she pulled out of the inside of her hair ribbon: a small peice of wood with a tree grove carved on it.* I never could get rid of this because it was one of the few things Darron left me with, besides an achy-breaky heart. I painted a picture of him on the back, as well as one of Virrax after he died and of Lonas after we broke up. I guess it's my rememberance ornament. Damn, I wish he was gone! And Virrax never existed... and Lonas, too. I couldn't live without them, but they kill me inside. Darron's so nice, and handsome, and strong, but he's got a traveller's soul. He's never satisfied inside, always wanting to explore the world around him. Virrax... had a tender and caring soul, maybe too much. He was more worried about others, specifically me at the time, and that's why he got into that barfight. Lonas... well, he was concerned in other areas, and that's what made it fall apart. But it was good that he wasn't just thinking of me all the time. I wouldn't mind dating Lonas again, but Darron... he'll prob'ly leave before Mayyie does, tired of a little village like this. *Oakrose sat, staring at the ornament, enjoying the cold breeze and the calm night.*
*Darron smiled and extended a paw, as did Mayyie.* Pleasure. It's Darron Swiftbow. Nice to meet you, Danniar. I'm Mayyie Birchgem.

*Ashnel catches Terragon's eyes and glances nonchalantly towards the front door through which Oakrose has just left and back to the red squirrel. Oakrose. A glimmer of understanding passes between them and Terragon takes half a step forwards as though to follow Oakrose, make sure she's alright. But Ashnel is already striding towards the door and Terragon hangs back. I wonder what Mayyie and Darron would think if Ashnel and I were to leave the party together.* *Ashnel follows silently Oakrose at a distance and, as she enters the woodlands and sits down, he quickens the pace he walks at and closes the gap between them. Without a word, Ashnel sits down a little apart from Oakrose. Why are you here, Ash'?* Alright? Terri and I were worried.
