Winning Story:
Hellsteeth.
****************
Thunder crashed outside the Whispering Willow tavern. Regen Eale woke with a start.
A brief flash of lightning lit the squirrel’s room. He clambered out of the bed and staggered to the window.
It had just started to rain - pink yarn?
Regen’s jaw dropped.
“This is a hallucination, I hope,” he muttered, and limped out of his room to the main tavern.
A dark-furred squirrel sat at a table with a fiddle.
Regen shook his head dazedly. “Ashn’l? Whatya doin’?”
The squirrel looked up. “Putting new strings on my fiddle.”
“They’re pink.”
Ashnel looked down at his fiddle. “No, they aren’t. Go to bed, Regen.”
Regen went back to his room.
The pink yarn was still falling heavily from the clouds. The squirrel watched, muttering incoherently.
A voice came out of the sky. The ground started to shake.
“Regen, you’re drunk. Wake up. ”
The voice seemed familiar, the squirrel thought.....
“Regen Eale!”
Regen jerked awake and stared blearily at the squirrel next to him.
“Terragon?”
Terragon nodded impatiently. “You fell asleep at a table.”
Regen glanced around. A hand loom sat on the table nearby, somebeast’s craft project. There was pink yarn on it.
Thunder rumbled outside the tavern.
“Hellsteeth.”
Runner-up:
Lullaby (untitled), by Terragon
The day's near gone to shadow behind hills.
Night has not come; it pauses at the gates.
Terralux stills it's pulsing heart for us
Two b'neath the heavens and ev'ning stars.
Can you say you know me as I know you?
In heaven you'll know me - I will greet thee,
We'll be together and go where we wish
Like the stars which guided us for so long.
There we will walk in lands of forever -
For forever belongs in bright heaven
And Terralux is only days and nights.

Poem (untitled), by Terragon
In the dawning of days,
When the earth still was young,
I watched him go unto the sun.As you all march away like he did before.
I'll watch you go,
And then I know I'll see,
To follow in the footsteps he made for me.
And when the sun meets the earth,
At the end of each day,
Remember me, and what I did say.
When the sun meets the earth,
Remember me,
Whisper my words,
For I followed him,
To the frontiers of the sun.
When the earth still was young,
I watched him go unto the sun.As you all march away like he did before.
I'll watch you go,
And then I know I'll see,
To follow in the footsteps he made for me.
And when the sun meets the earth,
At the end of each day,
Remember me, and what I did say.
When the sun meets the earth,
Remember me,
Whisper my words,
For I followed him,
To the frontiers of the sun.
