OOC: Open, but most likely w/ Oakrose. Others are welcome to show up anyway, I guess.
The night was warm, for once, and not raining. And, strangely enough, the sky was clear and the moon was out. Were one to be out at night, for some reason, they could see the walls around the main village, what was being called 'Terralux Fort', rising against the sky and the trees.
It was mostly silent out, aside from an occasional shout or the sound of a woken bird. It was, however, close to midnight, and that would be expected. Despite the guards posted up around Terralux, nobeast wanted to be out at night around their fellow vermin. Lights showed in a few tents, but not very many.
Outside the fort, not a single lantern or candle flickered (aside from Eale's Nest, where the sounds of a fiddle and a crowd were audible to everyone from the fort to the lake.) This was mostly uniform, though..dark and quiet.
Aside from Citadel Clearing. A small fire burned there, in the pit that usually held the large summer bonfires. Two creatures sat around it.
They were, unsuprisingly, the Eale brothers - Lonas Raymond, and Regen. The two golden squirrels sat facing the fire, weapons at their hips.
Still, they seemed at ease despite their armed state. Regen was playing a wandering tune on his guitarra, and staring dreamily into the fire. It flickered in his brown eyes, giving him an uncharacteristically thoughtful air.
Lonas was lying on the ground, head propped up on a folded cloak. There was a wine bottle (empty, but neither of the two was drunk) on the ground, and also a knife and part of a loaf of bread. Clearly the older of the two squirrels had just finished eating, and was now dozing lightly and reciting poetry, in his usual way:
I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind
"Interesting, Ray'..but not bad." Regen's stopped playing and is staring at the stars, his eyes weary. "Where did you learn it?"
"Don't know. I've always known that, I think." Lonas shrugs slightly, hampered a bit by the ground.
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do, crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind.[/i]
"You made that up." Regen doesn't sound accusing, just a bit amused. Lonas doesn't shrug this time, but closes his eyes and smiles a bit.
"A very Christian sentiment, too."
"Aye?" Lonas opens one eye, curious to see his brother's expression. Regen is staring into the blaze, eyes distant..his face is stony and unreadable.
"You like it, I see." Lonas grins. "For you, Reg'. Enjoy while it lasts:
Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, all your money won't another minute buy."
Regen opens his mouth to reply, frowning slightly, but something crunches leaves behind him. The squirrel turns his head to look into the dark trees, eyes narrowed.
"Who's there?"
