Seeing as Terralux is by no means a pure Redwall rp anymore, and seeing as it now has an important plot, and seeing as these facts are mostly my fault, I have here compiled a short discussion of the world, plotline, and general political relations of Terralux.
Enjoy..if anyone has something to add, contact me.
A Note-
Terralux is an Earth/Redwall crossover, set in the late Renaissance. The following things are disallowed in the rp, by order of one Terragon Scrufftail:
Horses (and, by proxy, non-Redwall species: cows, dogs, chickens, and so forth.)
There are, however, basic firearms and cannons, and a mention of various historical characters. These would include Joan of Arc, The Pope, Galileo, Crusaders, and the Queen of Spain. None of these people are important in the plot, they are mostly only mentioned in passing during conversation.
The fact that this is a crossover means that some things that are not actually mentioned in the Redwall series are important..these include other countries and continents, and the Church.
(I would note that Christopher Columbus hasn’t come into the picture yet, and probably won’t.)
Basic Scene -
Terralux is a small village in Mossflower Woods, near to Salamandastron but a good day’s journey away from Redwall Abbey. It is also several days away from Fort Copperlin, one of the more important IC places.
Terralux is situated by a lake, and has wooden walls around the main village (which includes the Tavern, Apothecary, and Town Hall, but not the treehouses.) Aside from the walls, there are wicker boundaries set up farther away to serve as roadblocks, and trenches along the path. The trenches have wooden bridges over them, which can be cut down if needed. They are filled with stakes.
Mossflower is in or near England, probably an island near Great Britian that is about the size of..well, of Britain itself. Obviously this island doesn't exist in our world.
Mossflower is a colony of England and is mostly, by now, under control of Tervin Blackstar. Tervin pays respects directly to the King of England. Mossflower itself is not at war with anything but itself, although Tervin sends part of his taxes to England to support various wars (France, mostly, but also occasional battles with Spain and other countries.)
Other countries are Spain, including the Arkain Squirrel Kingdom (where the Eales are from), England, France, Ireland, and Italy. Also mentioned are Africa and the Mideast.
Some slightly important allies and places nearer to Terralux are Salamandastron, Fort Copperlin, and the Pine Groves. Redwall Abbey is mentioned, but isn't currently involved with Terralux at all.
Currency and economy?
Why yes, we do have some of those.
The Terraluxian currency, used around the village and occasionally outside, is Crystal Shards. We're not sure what they look like. Trading is also done, although mainly outside the village..dragonfly messengers are a popular item.
Also of note is Copperlin gold - Blackstar's currency of the realm. These are used mainly IC, although Lonas Eale will gladly take them at his store.
Copperlin gold is not all gold. The coins are, in fact, gold, silver, and bronze. Most common are bronze coins..these are about the size of a silver dollar US, or a Spanish reale. They have a four-pointed star shape on them, and, among Blackstar's company, are referred to as 'Bronze Cowltrops.'
Silver are the same size, but heavier. They have the same star on them, but on the back is a sword. These are called 'Sabers.'
Gold are the heaviest, although the same size in diameter of sabers and cowltrops. They have the star on, of course, and a shield on the other side - the shield has Blackstar's coat of arms, a star in the middle of a chevron. These are, obviously, called 'Shields' or simply 'Golds'.
Occasionally currencies of other countries are used. Lonas will accept English and Spanish money, although due to political problems he will not take French (read: doesn't want to get hung as a traitor.) He probably will also take money that hails from as far away as Italy, if someone happens to have some.
A basic comparison chart is here for reference:
1 Cowltrop is equal to about three Shards or 5 US cents
Five cowltrops make a saber
1 Saber is equal to about eight Shards or 15 US cents
Ten sabers make a gold
1 Gold is equal to about twelve Shards or 50 US cents
A decent sword is worth about 30 golds
------
Terralux has no exports and grows much of its food. Sometimes it sells beer to other places.
The village is mostly kept from going completely to heck by the Eale's Apothecary store. Here is sold everything from goods to fake antiques coins, and Lonas Eale takes care of all business. Also, Lonas keeps the economy going.
(It is, by the way, suggested that somebody attempt to set up some competition for him. The way things are going, if Lonas gets annoyed at everyone for some reason and raises his prices, nobody'll be able to get food or cheap replicas of Martin the Warrior's sword...which'd be sad.)
Enjoy..if anyone has something to add, contact me.
