*Mrs. Windwhiffler laughs, a laugh so bright and unlike Ayeny's that it borders on the edge of sounding false.* Likewise, Mister Alashia, *she says, and the tone is such that the faintest of sighs escapes Ayeny's mouth (although it is not loud enough for her mother to hear... she hopes.)*
Or, should I say, *Mrs. Windwhiffler continues,* Mister and Miss Alashia. *She looks at Ayeny and Ashnel again, and her smile is near-genuine.* I saw those goings-on in the square.

*Robin sighs slightly and hopefully quietly. She doesn't really know what Ayeny's mother is liek yet but something tells her she'll probably never know. She thinks that but she if often wrong about things which Terragon reminds her of a lot. A small smile creeps over her face and she wishes that they could get back to the evening.*

*Ashnel drops his guard and beams.* You did? Well then, there's no need t' bore you with explainations then, yes? Except one. *Terragon adds suddenly.* It's funny you should turn up, Mrs. Windwhiffler, as me an' Robin - *She gestures her sister.* - along with Ashnel, 'Yeny and some others, are headed off to Noonvale tommorrow to meet up with some family. *The red squirrel gets carried away.* You wouldn't want t'come would you? *Genius... brilliant icebreaker.* I'm Terragon... Canopy, leader o' Terralux, by the way. *Terragon introduces herself with the name Canopy, so as to avoid long, awkward questions and answers.*

No, none, *murmurs the elderly squirrel in response to Ashnel's enthusiastic question. She then looks at Terragon and, with a slight bow, nods her head in reply to that query, as well, stifling any skepticism over Ayeny's nickname.* I would love to come along with you, if you wouldn't mind. There is a great deal I would like to catch up on. *Her face is innocent, bland.*
*Ayeny's eyes go slightly wider and there is the slightest of chances that Ashnel might be able to hear the rather strangled noises coming from her throat, although, they are also very soft.*

*Terragon nods and Ashnel takes over.* Well... er... shall we continue? Everybeast - this is Mrs Windwhiffler. Mrs. Windwhiffler, this is... well, everybeast. *Melamia gets the drift and starts up the noise level again. Talis, Joey, Bella and some others join in after a few moments and Ashnel slips away to the far side of the room, attempting to pull Ayeny after him through the crowd.*

*Ayeny lets herself be pulled, and Mrs. Windwhiffler makes as if to follow but somehow, the crowd doesn't allow for such a thing, and she finds herself facing Terragon, instead. Finding this not a bad thing, she looks at the other.* Terragon, is it? *She asks, pleasantly.* You seem to know my daughter very well.
Collecting information, *Ayeny mutters to Ashnel darkly.*

*Robin waves slightly as her name is mentioned and when they get back to the evening she grins slightly. She keeps her eyes on Mrs. Windwhiffler though, or at least tries to all she can make out is that she ends up talking to Terragon. Uh-oh! Her mind mentally dishes this out wondering what will happen if those two come face to face, but she hopes that it will be fine. She really hopes and edges slightly away she hates talking to strangers though if the mother is like Ayeny she'll get on quite well with her she hopes.*

*Ashnel nods, a little too gravely.* Well... She seems - er - very nice. A little strong-willed too, if you'll f'rgive me for saying so. *He drops his voice.* Are you alright?
*Terragon meanwhile watches Mrs. Windwhiffler. She supposedly relaxes, to try and cover over the tension beginning to build in her mind.* Met her back at Redwall. *The red squirrel replies lightly.* Though I've no need t' ask where you met Ayeny. *Don't do that. Her mind advises.*

*Mrs. Windwhiffler laughs another overbright laugh, eyes on Terragon the entire time.* Well, I'm glad to see you've known her for a while... and that she's friends with good squirrels. *Her eyes only momentarily flicker in the direction the couple had been headed, the last time she has seen them.*
*Ayeny exhales, and she tries to get rid of all her anxiety in that breath.* I'm fine, *she reassures the other.* It's... it's just been a little while... *She exhales again, the first breath obviously not having worked.* She means well, *she says defensively.* She means the very best for me. She and I just... disagree a lot. On what's best for me, *she adds, flatly.*
*The squirrel's eyes look to either side of Ashnel to check for eavesdroppers, then continues, voice strangely matter-of-fact,* We've never been openly hostile towards each other. That's only because, when I was young, I was afraid to argue with her. *She pauses for a moment, and then continues in the same, forced, unemotional tone,* I don't think that feeling's ever really gone away. I just left without resolving that problem... and have been trying to run from it ever since.

You and Terragon are more similiar than you know. *Ashnel murmurs, glancing in the red squirrel's direction. The fore-mentioned seems unsure of how to respond to this over-bright newcomer and the darker squirrel stifles a smile as Terragon's expression fights to not show any concern towards the situation.* Y'know, this might not be so bad aft'r all. *But as Ashnel finishes speaking, he hears Terragon's voice over the babble.* So, it'll be nice having you along on our trip t' Noonvale. *He silences a groan badly.* Don't ev'r tempt fate, 'Yeny... the outcome... is brilliantly ironic.

*Ayeny blushes over Ashnel's first comment but has no idea how to respond, so she moves on to his second one.* I don't need to tempt fate- she picks on me anyway. *She sighs once more, and then shrugs.* Well, there's naught you or I can do about it at the moment, so I suppose we might as well try to enjoy ourselves, *she says, although a problem she hasn't mentioned effectively reduces her chances of doing so.*
I'm glad you think so, *Mrs. Windwhiffler says to Terragon calmly.* I'm not being a burden, am I? I don't have to come along, after all... *she says, although her eyes momentarily flicker towards Ashnel and Ayeny once again.*

I doubt it. *Terragon replies lightly. The red squirrel pauses.* Oh... has nobeast offered you a drink yet? *She asks suddenly.* What can I get you - I think we've got most cordials, ciders, y'know...
*Ashnel nods.* Sure. *He doesn't press matters further.* We'd better talk to ev'rybeast... make our presence known and all that.

Just some water would be nice, *Mrs. Windwhiffler says, a tad distracted, but most of her attention is used to observe Terragon quietly.*
*Ayeny laughs, and for a moment, her tension is alleviated.* I doubt anyone hasn't noticed us at some point or another, *she says, but nods.* You're right, though.

*Terragon takes a long route around the treehouse to enable her to talk to Ashnel and Ayeny.* Don't try and hide in a corner. Somebeast might notice you, Ash'! *The squirrel beams as she passes. The other waits until Terragon has past before murmuring to Ayeny.* See - more alike than you think, perhaps? *He pauses a moment to exchange a greeting with a fieldmouse by the name of Tobi. Terragon meanwhile returns to Mrs. Windwhiffler with the requested glass of water. She attempts to place it in the other's paw with a small smile.*

*Robin is standing hiding in a corner hoping that she won't have to meet anyone who she doesn't really know. She hates that so much. A small smile creeps over her face as she sees a familiar squirrel enter. He quickly dashes over to her and grins.* Hiya Robin. *He takes a drink from the table behind her.* Hi Elm. *She replies. There is really no more to say except she feels she better fill him in, so she does but only in whispers so as not to make too much noise.*
