*Darron looks everything over with shock. So there's really a good chance of attack... Clearing his throat, he stands up.* 'Scuse me, but I'm a Warrior from our settlement. Talented with a set of throwing daggers, but trained in the field of swordsmanship. I'm also okay with a sling and a bow.

Six, *Terragon adds deftly. She looks around as though for inspiration from the stone walls and her face breaks into a grin again, hardly daring to believe this is happening.* Well, then I think we should follow yours and Lonas' advice, Regen. Defences. And... *She turns to the weasel.* Rippla; a word with yourself. *Leaving Baraka's side, Terragon walks past Rippla towards the front of the church, looking back to nod to Regen and Lonas. You too. Her back turned to them again, Terragon allows herself another, lopsided, smile. A peace leader and she's most probably avoided Lord Blackstar for too long.*

"Rippla, a word with yourself." Rippla watches Terragon go past cooly, then follows, his rapier still in paw. Regen and Lonas follow, the former with a nod to Darron as he passes. Regen is obviously taking his time - although Rippla and Lonas reach Terragon fairly quickly, the big squirrel follows at a slow pace. He's thinking, harder than he has in months. Six warrior, an' that was all. Actually, it rather reminded him of when he first arrived at Terralux, an old conversation: "What're you doin' here?" (he didn't think Ashnel'd had that accent, actually.) "Drinkin' ale an' eating bread. What'dye think we're doin' here?" (his own voice, rather annoyed.) "We don't need help." "Aye, 'cause yer gonna defeat thirty vermin with six warriors, aye?" Right. Then, he'd been one of the soldiers, the cannon fodder, the ones who went in to help. Now, though, he was a duke. There had to be something he could do to allieviate the situation. Regen, however many vermin he was friends with, didn't really care for the idea of Burde's troops at Terralux. The warlord was well-known for keeping a raggy, but well-trained and fierce, pack of fighters..who also were fond of the usual Nordic activities. Plundering, raping, burning..all they needed was a pack of enemies here.
The golden squirrel reached the group, where Rippla and Lonas stood, paused beside the latter, and nodded to Rippla to speak. Regen was fairly sure that a plan would come to him - either a way to keep the troops peaceful, or a means to avoid using them alltogether. He'd have to see. "Aye?" Regen watched Rippla...the weasel had spoken without preamble, as usual. No embarrasment in that one. Rippla watched the leaderess, ice returned to his expression. A soldier now.

*Darron calls from the back to the front where Terragon is.* Y'know, Otter's Fort is just down the shore, a bit south o'Salamondastron. They've got lotsa warriors, and that's where Oakrose says Clearstream went back to. So Terralux has beasts there, Clearbrook, Clearstream and her husband and their kids. I'm sure that at least a score o'fightin beasts could come help. *The squirrel shruggs, wondering if that made any sence at all.*
OOC: For real, it's the truth! ;D

Burde's Horde? *Terragon asks Rippla, and raises a paw to acknowledge and halt Darron and continues,* You know where they'll be? Or could find them? *Ask a stupid question. She stares back at Rippla, nearly impassive. Though Terragon finds it easy to look slightly above his head, she meets his eyes and only then it occurs to her that she wasn't before sure what colour they were.* And they'd fight for Terralux? *Terragon tries not to sound too surprised. Mercenaries, after all. And speaking of mercenaries... too early for honesty.* *A sudden thought surfaces and the leaderess turns to Regen.* Are you still in contact with Stormsight? Tinsy.

"Every king has a castle," Rippla replies..somewhat enigmatically, as always. Lonas shifts around behind him in a slightly annoyed fashion. "Aye, they'd fight..wit' the right pay." The weasel returns to his businesslike manner from before. "They'll take th' usual, I imagine..money, food, wine. Dragonflies perhaps, but I doubt it." His eyes, brown but much darker than those of the Eale brothers, show little emotion - save, perhaps, for a brief flash of amusement at Terralux's predicament.
Regen frowns at the mention of Stormsight, whom he still doesn't like, thinks a moment, and replies slowly, "Well..she contacted me a few weeks ago, a forewarning of Blackstar's intentions. 'Course, we all knew about them already, so I didn't bother t' repeat th' warning to ye." "She still works for Blackstar, as far as I know." The golden squirrel shrugs. "Likely does th' same thing as before..she ain't the power b'hind th' throne by any means, but by no means is Stormsight's advice unheeded up there. She's a sharp one." Regen scowls a bit harder.

And I suppose there's no way of influencing her, *Terragon says decisively, barely looking at Regen. She'd known and known of Tinsy Stormsight for perhaps a year or so at Redwall Abbey, but the other had been seasons older and they'd rarely spoken. Regardless, Terragon had doubtlessly looked up to the moody, sarcastic badger, but what did that matter, years on? Too irrelevant to voice, too little to rely on as a plan. Mercenaries, though. However much the idea repulsed Terragon, it would work. And at times of war, plans that work are the ones that leaders, in theory, should chose to follow. So...* Rippla, you're prepared to go to Burde's Horde, I take it?

OOC: Sorry if this is a bit patchy..I'm having a purposeless adrenaline rush right now. S' distracting.
BIC:
"Doubtless. I s'ppose ye could try fer honor..a sense of duty t' Terralux or Redwall or civilazation or summat..but it's unlikely t' do much good." Regen frowns, then pauses as a thought occurs..a bad one. "Whoops. Just realized, Terri, we're like t' get Tinsy Stormsight in th' opposite side..attackin' us, if we seem like a hard enough nut t' crack. We'll have t' hope not, otherwise we're dead. Cannons are all very well an' good, but add them to a competent general.."
Lonas makes a face..he never had the misfortune to meet the badger in question, but he obviously understands the implication here. Rippla more-or-less snarls, recognizing the name - Stormsight, he vaguely recalls, was the name the leader of Blackstar's last foray into Burde territory. Which, in fact, took out the warlord's attacking force. He nods once, curtly. "Aye. I c'n go int' Burde's territory wit'out much trouble. Gettin' out o' Mossflower may take some time, but I'll give it three weeks there if nothin' goes wrong." An unspoken promise that it won't, at least on his watch. "Should give ye time t' work up where yer gonna put th' soldiers once ye have them."

OOC: No worries. Know what you mean.
BIC: *Terragon grimaces. Fighting against Tinsy hardly appeals.* Shame, *She mutters.* But I suppose it can't be helped. *Terralux has Regen Eale, at least. Terragon's even grateful for Rippla right now.* Three weeks? *She muses.* We can hold out that long, I think. But then again... *Her voice slows and each word becomes clearer and pronounced, though Terragon speaks more quietly. A characteristic of Ashnel and now, Terragon.* Three weeks to get out of Mossflower. How long to get the mercenaries back to Terralux? Regen? *The leaderess asks, suddenly, directly, frankly and louder - though her voice still, hopefully, does not carry to the back of the church to Darron and Baraka.* How long can we last out if Blackstar chooses to attack us?

Regen straightens slightly as Terragon speaks louder, pitching his voice likewise. It probably carries more than the other squirrel's, due to being deeper, but his accent has thickened enough that it's almost hard to understand. "Were 'e t' attack now, Miss Terr'gon, maybe an hour what wit' th' cannon and armor'd knights Blackstar's got." Lonas interrupts. "We 'ave got a week afore he wants a reply t' his letter. It'll take maybe four days t' get everythin' t'gether. Anoth'r week, prob'ly, t' get battle plans t'gether, which he c'n do while 'is soldiers are gettin' ready. Several days t' march through th' woods t' get here." The squirrel calculates this quickly. "A fortnight. However, Blackstar prob'ly 'as a few more important things t' worry about afore 'e attacks here..perhaps another three weeks whatever. That's a month an' a bit." "More that enough time for me to go and come back." Rippla's voice sounds strange, as it has none of the heavy Spanish accent of the Eales. Lonas continues. "Durin' that time, we need t' get in troop an' civilian quarters, fortify th' wall, clear out anythin' - trees an' such - wot c'n burn. Store up plenty o' food an' water, make sure th' armory's in shape, train any warriors we have. If it's gonna be a seige, we need t' get ready."
Regen nods for the older squirrel to continue. Lonas takes a breath. "Some officers'd be good. We need a Seargent 'o Arms t' train th' troops an' be in charge o' discipline an' th' armory. Also somebeast t' oversee th' buildin' of walls and such, an' somebeast else in charge o' supplies. All in less'n two months." He pauses, realizing the list he's just repeated. "It is gonna be a seige, after all." "Our other choice," Rippla says in an almost careless tone, "Is becoming loyal serfs to Lord Blackstar."

*The trees? Terragon nods at the carpet, biting her lip. War is no time to become attached to a place. If Lonas and Regen say we have to clear the trees, we clear them. Looking up, she listens quietly and nods to the Eale brother's suggestions, leaving short pauses after each idea.* Stoakly could probably help with any training and the forge and armoury, *She mutters quickly. Realisation seems to strike Terragon too.* Yeah, *She agrees.* A siege. *Trailing off, she nearly jumps at the sound of Rippla's voice, careless, emotionless.* But that's nearly the same problem as we had in the first place? *She frowns to Lonas and Regen in turn.* We... what d'you think? Maybe it'd be worth sending Rippla out to the Horde anyway... oh... let me see the letter again, *Terragon says, Rippla's impassive tones annoying her. She reaches out to take the parchment.*

"Aye," Regen allows. "But here we've gotta fight instead o' just strikin' deals." "Now I think on it," his voice turns slightly amused, "Stormsight was prob'ly on yer - our - side all 'long..after all, she did s'cure us five seasons 'o relative peace t' get ourselves set up fer a siege. That's wot ye' call ironic." Lonas rolls his eyes slightly, passing the letter from Blackstar over to Regen. "She's prob'ly wonderin' how it is we're so stupid." He tosses the scroll from the Arkains up and down in his paw, then reaches out and feeds it into one of the candle flames...clearly, he figures there's no sense keeping it. Regen peels open the letter and holds it out for all to see. It's written in green ink, in a scribe's careful, precise hand.
To Terragon Canopy, y-clept Leader of Terralux, and Lord Regen Eale of the Arkain Squirrel Kingdom on the Third Day of January, Year of Our Lord Thirteen and Forty-Two,
I regret to inform you that your Town, Lands, Money, and Crops are now the Property of Lord Blackstar. We would request that your monthly Taxes be sent at the end of this Week, that is Seventh. These are to the Amount expected from a small village under the dominion. You may, if needed, read the amount it the Note attatched. Should you be disinclined to provide the Taxes, they will be Removed by Force. I hope you are well.
Lord Tervin Blackstar, y-clept King of Mossflower Country
"As ye c'n see," Regen says after rereading the note himself, "He doesn't leave much room fer argument."

OOC: Darron's last RP, other than the Mossflower Quest. yet BIC: *Darron coughs from the back of the church, wondering if they'd forgotten him. He doesn't seem too eager to join the conversation, as he doesn't understand much of it.* So... should I ask the ladies to send Clearstream and Otter's Fort a Dragonfly? OOC: Inter-site RP? I'm sure some of the OF members would mind, if Finn says it's okay.

OOC: Tinsy? What d'you think? The storyline and Lord Blackstar might take some explaining.
BIC: *Terragon nods, only part sharing in Regen's amusement. She scans the parchment quickly, dark eyes flicking violently to and fro. Terragon reads it a second time, slower, as though attempting to memorise every word.* No, *She agrees finally, taking a faintly sarcastic tone.* He doesn't.
*At his words, Terragon looks back at Darron with a thoughtful frown. She turns to Regen and raises her eyebrows quizzically.* We don't have enough warriors to win. Even with those from Otters' Fort - and besides - how fair is it to draw them into this? *How fair is it, Terragon considers, to give no warning of Blackstar to the other settlement? She sighs and curses silently.*
Let's sit down, *Terragon says suddenly, like Blackstar, her voice giving little room for argument. The leaderess slouches back onto one of the pews, suddenly weary.* Rippla said something about serfs. *Terragon finds her temper and energy fraying with each passing moment.* Regen.

OOC: Naah. The problem here is that nobody else has any idea what's going on...because they're all in the Redwall universe, and we're a crossover. We'd have two years of storyline to cover, plus a detailed description of what's what in the world. And places like Otter's Fort and..whatever the other place was..are chock-full of puritan-Redwall n00bs, none of which can get anything right because they know nothing about medieval history outside of swords-and-horses fantasy. Even if there was an Otter's Fort in this universe, it wouldn't really be the same one as the website, it would be one from our alternate reality/universe...and nobody but Baraka's gonna understand anything of what I just said. So my opinion is no.
BIC:
Regen sits on a pew across from Terragon. Lonas perches on the back of another. Rippla, of course, remains standing, watching the squirrels with a baleful sort of look in his eye. "Well..I ain't sure m'self." Regen shrugs helplessly. "This is all legal stuff. I'm a soldier, y'know that." Lonas sighs softly, mumbles something about Regen being a waste, and interrupts again. "Serfs. S' an old idea. Th' king..that's Blackstar...has various barons under 'is command. Your Stormsight's prob'ly one o' them. They command peices o' the kingdom, an' do what Blackstar tells 'em. Under them, are more barons..dukes, like Reg', also, an' earls. Th' bottom 'o th' pack is the serf. That'd be Darron here an' Oakrose, as they don't own any lands." He thinks a moment. "Well, Reg'n'd be given some token lands, as he's a duke from another country. I'd likely be 'is seneschal..steward..an' take care o' them for 'im, since I own part ' th' Tavern an' the Apothecary. Ye might continue as an Earl, Terri, as Terralux b'longs to ye. Rippla'd 'ave t' leave th' country t' avoid bein' hung, drawn, an' quartered." The weasel smirks. Clearly there's a story behind this that hasn't been related to everyone else.
